I know it's only been a day but to me it seems like a lifetime when it comes to music so to close this month out I will post music from Windham Hill.
Enjoy...
I recently got a hold of a Jim Brickman cd(I found this one along with the Don Henley's cd..a buck 25 as well ^_~) It wasn't too bad. I will try and get some of those tracks up on Vox sometimes next week.
Another beautifully written compositions where you can tell musicians love what they do. We can't live in the past but I know Windham Hill Records is just a shell and many of these musicians have moved on but I thank God I had a chance to get some of their recordings. The combinations for the mandolins, flutes, violins, and percussions make a wonderful sound or lullaby for any child.
enjoy...
George Winston was one of the earliest artist to sign with Will Ackerman back in the day. If you ever get a chance to pick up some of his album it's worth it. I enjoy piano solo albums and George is so relaxing to listen to on a star lit night...having that special someone over and having an evening dinner on the patio or sun deck.
Scott Cossu playing can be soothing, jazzy, calming. His piano/keyboard playing is truly remarkable. I have to admit, I do not own any of his albums, just what is on my samplers which in shameful on my part because I have heard enough of his material to go out and buy his work. The two track here are really wonderful and I will make it my mission to buy some of his material this year. Even on the Windham Hill Concert he plays only one track which is a bummer; but hey I have these compositions from Mr. Cossu to show his talent.
Enjoy.
If you ever watched The Weather Channel and you are checking out your local focus on the 8s you may have heard this little tune. For a long time I tried to find out who was this artist or group and then I purchased the Windham Hill Sampler of the past 20 years and low and behold this song popped on. This year I truly hope to get as much earlier Windham Hill recordings as possible because of artist like Torcuato Mariano. This is such a beautiful composition from his Last Look album. Music has and will continue to take me to another place and time :-).
What can I say about this guitar virtuoso that has not been said. The very first track I ever heard from him was "Clockwork"...blew me away. When it came to musical gifts God must to have been really generous to Alex. His finger picking style is just incredible. Whether he is playing solo or with a couple of people his style is his own...really. Here are some facts about this amazing guitarist. Whenever I listen to Alex he gives me a deeper respect for you, the musicians that practice and practice to perfect your gift and love for the love of acoustic music.
To all the musicians that play the acoustic guitars...Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Enjoy....
One thing I really respected about Will Ackerman, he know talent when he saw it and Michael Manring is not exception. To me he has to be one of the best bassist around. This is so ironic because Michael was going to be my next artist I was going to post and Dayv(and welcome by the way
) left this comment for me....
"The only Windham Hill artist that I'm well-versed in is Michael Manring. How do you feel about his innovative music? As a bass player, I find his solo works fascinating. The technique in this song, for example, is awe-striking, yet takes a backseat to the musicality of the song as a song."

Thank you for your comment Dayv
Dayv summed it up for me as well because not only is he a great soloist but when he toured with Montreux he knew how to play within a ensemble as well and to me that to me shows how humble is as well. He knows when to step forward and step back. Hope you enjoy the tunes today.
Here I'm posting a song from his solo project and a couple of songs from when he recorded with Montreux
Hear is a solo piece by Michael...no looping and no overdubs...
Here is a couple of tracks from when he recorded with Montreux...
Barbara Higbie
Mike Marshall
Darol Anger
Andy Narell
Let me get my salute to Will Ackerman, the founder of Windham Hill kicked off by playing one the groups that whenever I hear this CD I have to kick back, light some candles, turn the lights down low and just meditate. Shadowfax(taken from horse's name from Lord of the Ring) had that blend of electronic, acoustic that was just right to me. The group, based out of Chicago was founded by the late Chuck Greenberg. Their mystical sound, takes me to another place and time. If you ever get a chance to rent or by the DVD Windham Hill in Concert...get it...and if you have a surround sound system, kick back, get you some wine and cheese, light some candle and get taken to another place and time.
