Some tracks to get you through this wonderful work Wednesday. Enjoy
George Winston was one of the earliest artist to sign with Will Ackerman back in the day. If you ever get a chance to pick up some of his album it's worth it. I enjoy piano solo albums and George is so relaxing to listen to on a star lit night...having that special someone over and having an evening dinner on the patio or sun deck.
while I'm on the "acoustic guitar" kick let me show case a group where their style is their own. I love River of Lost Souls because it also showcases the fretless bass in action. I love the sound of the fretbass and the keyboards blend in this track and this album is a must have for your music library. And of course I had to throw in some Michael Franks(on the track Innuendo...that's Earl Klugh on the acoustic classic guitar.)
Just for you....
I haven't had a chance to condense this so this is a pretty large file but I have listened to this composition about 7 times now. While loading songs that I downloaded from eMusic onto my computer, I came across this by Steve Oliver, this is a very beautiful song. I'm finding myself early this year listening to the acoustic guitar more and more. :-)
Let me get my salute to Will Ackerman, the founder of Windham Hill kicked off by playing one the groups that whenever I hear this CD I have to kick back, light some candles, turn the lights down low and just meditate. Shadowfax(taken from horse's name from Lord of the Ring) had that blend of electronic, acoustic that was just right to me. The group, based out of Chicago was founded by the late Chuck Greenberg. Their mystical sound, takes me to another place and time. If you ever get a chance to rent or by the DVD Windham Hill in Concert...get it...and if you have a surround sound system, kick back, get you some wine and cheese, light some candle and get taken to another place and time.
In the upcoming weeks I will begin posting music from my Windham Hill CDs collection, Narada Records label but mainly from Windham Hill. The CDs that I own is when Will Ackerman was at the helm of Windham Records. I haven't really bought any CDs since the late 90s so really this will be a dedication to Will Ackerman because of his foresight and his courage to start up Windham Hill. From the information I have read Windham Hill Records is just a name and not really a label anymore so Will sold I believe at the right time. I am thinking about starting a music group that is devoted entirely to alternative music...my interpretation of alternative is folk, bluegrass, smooth jazz, new age, some electronic music, classical, and of course...acoustic. Let me know your thoughts Vox neighbors
Here is a sample what I mean:
