Meet Me Half Way I think was the only good thing from the Sly Stallone movie. This was Kenny Loggins at his hey day when it came to writing tracks for movie.
Thank goodness for the internet. Listening to songs like this when I was a "wee lad" I had to enjoy them by myself because many of my friends thought I was strange to begin with but at the time I couldn't find the words to explain that music was not a color barrier...either it was good or bad. To me Paul McCartney will be one of favorite song writers. The lyrics, the arrangements, the tempo...he truly has a true gift. With McCartney he has two careers...with The Beatles and with Wings. Two of my favorites songs by Paul when he created Wings are Band On the Run and Let 'Em In. I love how he has always used string arrangements, horn arrangements. I never really noticed this but it's best to listen to Let 'Em In with a very good pair of headphones or earbuds to truly experience this song. Until now I never really heard the vocal arrangements in this song until now. To the sutleness in this song brings a smile to my face. The first time I heard Band On the Run I was about 12 years old and I usually went to bed with the radio on and you know how sometimes how you are sleep and at the same time you incorporate sound that are really on in your dreams. I can't really remember my dream but I do remember this wonderful song while I was dreaming. Mama Used To Say is truly a summer song. I have to find the extended version of this song but this will do for now (hey I can't complain, I found this CD, Pure Funk Vol. II at the library so when it's free to check out you can't be choosy). I think Junior may have had a couple of other hits but he will be known for this wonderful fun Summertime hit. I know this came out before Spike Lee's "Do The Right Thing" but just the feel of a fun, hot Summer day...this song buts me in that frame of mind The track Porcelain from Moby (from the Pure Moods vol. III) makes me thankful that I did not follow the pack when came to listening to music. I have always enjoyed music that was different...hey I was an outcast so why not go all the way, huh? This song puts me in the mind when sitting home on Saturday evening watching the sun set and the red/orange glow as it sets while sitting on my patio erases the stress for week I had before. Listening to this type of music, enjoying the company of your loved one or the present of God makes me just thankful he has blessed men and women to bring these type of compositions to the masses. (wait...this is 4 tracks not 3...I'm sure you don't mind a extra one thrown in here, do you?)
I will admit...I miss Michael. I know he's still alive but miss his creativity when it comes to music. The way Michael sang, danced, his music videos, he was giving a true gift that anyone would want. To be able to dance like he did and never had a dancing lesson (they said that a chorographer would do the move just once and he would get routine down), his voice, the way he would arrange some of the songs he wrote...true magic. ^_^ I remember as kid growing up listening to The Jackson5 (now I know I am truly showing my age). I remember in the 5th grade do a talent show and me, malcom, Walter, Robert, and Robert(Bishop) performing "Dancing Machine" (my cousins and I saw the Jackson5 at the St. Louis Kiel Auditorium back in 70s). This comes on me because this past weekend I caught the tell the tail end of the TV Movie about the Jacksons. The movie sucked big time but it made go and find his "Thriller" CD. This week I will post songs from this CD and if you, my Vox neighbors have audio songs (videos are cool too) from his, "Off The Wall" CD please feel free and post them in the group blog, "Road To Hanna". When this came out, I just graduated from Madison High Sr. High, MTV was showing videos and not the mess that show now, the world was our oyster. I can remember hanging out with my friends Malcom, Walter, Lisa, Rozelle, Reggie, Bennett, Nathan...so many friends, so many cool times. To me, Michael was really powerful when he teamed up with Quincy Jones. The very first video I remember seeing on MTV back in 1983 was "Billie Jean" I was in Champaigne, Illinois. I thought I was going to go to college out of town and I stayed with my mother's friend and his wife, Larry. This CD sticks out to me not only for the songs but the musicians that performed on each of these tracks and I mean the cream of crop. Members from Toto, Eddie Van Halen, Greg Phillipians and countless others ( I may post the musicians later on each track I post from this CD...the audio geek in me can't help it). Human Nature is my all time favorite...it just takes me to a place that I know does not exist. Whenever I hear the song my mind goes to some of the scenes from "The Fifth Element". (if you wish to listen to Human Nature, go to my audio section...I will post it later this week). Times change, Michael Jackson, MTV, those days are long gone but I am glad I came up when music was fun to listen to and music videos were fun to watch. It's really sad because Michael was really a handsome brotha. To have so much talent and not think highly of yourself is truly a lost. I keep him lifted up in prayer because it goes to show, you can have fame, money and if you do not love yourself...it's all in vain. The first song I will post is Lady in My Life Enjoy. ^_^
